Every year we take our new students to Butlins on a residential visit. For many of the students this is the first time they have been away from their home and although they are excited, they also feel a little bit anxious about being in unfamiliar surroundings.
The purpose of the residential visit is to build the students self-confidence, improve their social skills and understand what they need to do to be able to become more independent and responsible for themselves.
At Butlins we are confident that the students are very safe, that’s why we return year after year. We allocate one member of staff to two students, but the emphasis is very much on doing things as a team and being respectful to each other.
In June this year we took 13 students and 7 staff to Butlins in Bognor Regis. The students enjoyed an action packed 5 days at the resort where they took part in a variety of activities such as swimming, bowling, Go-Karting, visiting the fair and going on the beach to eat fish and chips.
The students enjoyed eating a full English breakfasts every morning and excellently prepared evening meals in the premier dining restaurants at the resort.
Since returning to college the students have talked very fondly of their time at Butlins.
So, there’s another successful residential trip to Butlins over for this year.
We have made a reservation to go to Butlins in June 2017 but this time we are going to Minehead and already the staff cannot wait to go!
