Introduction

Hi, I am Julie Pallister and I am the work placement coordinator at The Hive College. It is my role to help our students gain as many experiences of work as possible to develop the skills they need to progress into paid employment.

The key thing is getting to know each student, finding out their strengths, abilities and interests and then sourcing a work placement that will suit theirs’ and the employers’ needs.

Our students are supported at their placements by our dedicated staff who are there to ensure that measures are put in place to encourage as much independence within the role as possible.

We have a large number of employers on board who provide a wide range of work placements and are all keen to help our students to develop.

We are having great success at The Hive with 80% of our students this year moving into paid employment. We are proving that young disabled people CAN and WANT to work and we are providing employers with reliable, enthusiastic workers who not only work hard but also lift the morale of others.

If you know of anyone who would be interested in offering an experience of work to our students, I would be very happy to speak with you.
