Wilson Stuart School and University College Birmingham formed a partnership and created a vocational study programme called LIVE @ The Hive.
The programme supported students aged 19-25 with special educational needs and disabilities into employment and was designed to promote their independence and confidence.
The LIVE study programme was very well received and from an initial intake of just 8 students, word spread and the demand for places grew year on year.
We were delighted to be awarded Independent Specialist College status. From this we formed the Wilson Stuart UCB Partnership Trust (WSUCBPT) and became officially known as The Hive College.
Students continued to successfully complete the LIVE programme and went on to gain apprenticeships and employment with prestigious employers across the Birmingham area.
At the same time we knew that there was a demand for additional programmes that were suitable for students who couldn’t benefit from the LIVE programme.
We created an additional study programme called STRIVE @ The Hive which provides students with profound and multiple learning difficulties and their families with the Independence and confidence they need to take part in the wider community.
We created another study programme called THRIVE @ The Hive which provides students with the opportunities to participate in supported employment or volunteering roles and improve their independent skills as much as possible.
OFSTED inspections are vital for maintaining standards and setting benchmarks and, like everyone else, we expected to go through the process at some point. Our first inspection came in 2019 and we were very pleased to be rated ‘Good’ because we had come a long way since 2013 and the report confirmed our commitment and successes so far.
